Real Estate Licensing Guide

1. Meet Basic Eligibility Requirements

You must be at least 18 years old and legally eligible to work in the United States. There is no college degree requirement.

2. Complete Required Pre-Licensing Education

Complete a 60-hour Connecticut-approved Real Estate Principles and Practices course. The course may be taken in person or online through an approved provider. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate.

3. Apply to Take the Licensing Exam

Submit an application to the state’s licensing authority or exam administrator, including your course completion certificate and required fees. You must receive approval before scheduling the exam.

4. Pass the Connecticut Real Estate Exam

Take and pass the real estate licensing exam, which includes both national real estate content and Connecticut-specific laws and regulations.

5. Secure a Sponsoring Broker

Before your license can be activated, you must affiliate with a licensed Connecticut real estate broker who will sponsor you.

6. Submit Your License Application

After passing the exam and obtaining a sponsoring broker, submit your real estate salesperson license application along with all required documentation and fees.

7. Receive and Activate Your License

Once your application is approved, you will receive your Connecticut real estate salesperson license and may legally begin practicing under your sponsoring broker.

8. Maintain and Renew Your License

Licenses must be renewed periodically. You are required to complete continuing education hours during each renewal cycle to keep your license active.
