Real Estate Licensing Guide

Step 1: Meet Basic Eligibility Requirements

To obtain a Real Estate Broker license in Oregon, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be a U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work
  • Demonstrate honesty, trustworthiness, and competency

Step 2: Complete Required Pre-Licensing Education

You must complete 150 hours of Oregon-approved pre-licensing education through an Oregon Real Estate Agency (OREA)–approved provider.

Step 3: Pass the Oregon Real Estate Exam

After completing your education, you must pass the Oregon Real Estate Broker Exam, which includes:

  • National portion
  • State-specific portion

The exam is administered by PSI Exams.

Step 4: Complete Fingerprinting & Background Check

You must submit fingerprints and complete a criminal background check as part of the licensing process.

Step 5: Find a Principal Broker

You must be sponsored by a licensed Oregon principal broker who will supervise your work.

Step 6: Submit Your License Application

Submit your Broker License Application to the Oregon Real Estate Agency, including:

  • Proof of education
  • Exam pass results
  • Background check documentation
  • Principal broker information
  • Required fees

Step 7: Receive Your License

Once approved, your Oregon Real Estate Broker license will be issued and activated under your principal broker.

Step 8: Complete First Renewal Education

Before your first license renewal, you must complete 27 hours of Broker Advanced Practices (BAP).

Step 9: Maintain Your License with Continuing Education

  • Licenses are renewed every two years
  • You must complete 30 hours of continuing education per renewal cycle, including mandatory core topics
